A relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under the application of a second electrical circuit. In basic operation, the relay controls an output circuit of much higher power than the input circuit. In the gas engine parts world, a starter relay is rated for 12 volts and activates the 12 volt battery to turn over the go-kart or scooter's engine.
